Doug Williams – First Black Quarterback to Win Superbowl
Since February is Black History Month, what better way to celebrate it by recognizing a great black American athlete.
A reserve quarterback for the Washington Redskins, started Superbowl XXII and led his team to victory on Jan. 13, 1988. On that day, Williams became the first black quarterback to play in and win a Superbowl. During those days, black athletes didn’t get a fair shot to play in professional sports such as the NFL, and those that did get to play were under payed when comparing their salaries to the white players.
