Woman’s Leg Severed When She Is Hit By Bus

Investigators said Ruby Rose stepped into a crosswalk just as a bus was turning at the intersection of Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Police said the bus driver, identified as Jean Louis, had a green arrow to turn left.

“She [Rose] was in the crosswalk but wasn’t walking in conjunction with the crosswalk light,” said a representative for Atlanta police.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. A representative for Atlanta Fire-Rescue said she is in her mid-50s.

Gloria Evans was in the area when the accident happened and rushed to help the victim.

“She was laying on the ground, and I came to help out … reading the Bible and gave her my sweater. I was holding her, saying a prayer to ease the pain,” Evans said.

Cobb Community Transit released a statement Wednesday night, which read in part, “Cobb Community Transit is working with Atlanta Police in their investigation of this serious injury accident. Per our procedures, the bus operator will be removed from service pending the conclusion of our accident investigation.”
