Ga. Mom, Boyfriend Arrested as 2 Kids Die in Fire
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) – DeKalb police say a mother and her boyfriend are charged with felony child cruelty after the death of two children in a weekend apartment fire.
Authorities say 29-year-old Angel Johnson and 24-year-old Keith Pinkney are accused of leaving her children unsupervised at an apartment near Decatur. Two preschoolers died after a space heater sparked a fire about 11 p.m. Friday.
Officials say 4-year-old Aliyah Quarles and 3-year-old Devyn Quarles died. A 2-year-old survived and was hospitalized with burns.
The two adults are each charged with three counts of child cruelty and one count of giving false statements to police. Jail records show bond is set at $500,000 for Johnson and $410,000 for Pinkney.
